UEFA Bars Azerbaijani Club Turan Tovuz from Next Season’s Conference League
UEFA has banned PFK Turan Tovuz from competing in the upcoming Conference League due to confirmed match-fixing violations linked to a 2019 disciplinary case.
UEFA has excluded Azerbaijani club PFK Turan Tovuz from participation in next season’s Conference League after its Appeals Body confirmed the club's involvement in match-fixing activities. The decision arises from a 2019 incident during which seven Turan Tovuz players faced bans imposed by the Azerbaijani football association for attempting to manipulate match outcomes.
Although the club secured a third-place finish in the Azerbaijan Premier League, Turan Tovuz denies any misconduct and insists on its right to compete in European competition. The club intends to challenge UEFA’s ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport while continuing its preparations, including a planned training camp in Turkey.
This UEFA ban underscores the governing body's zero-tolerance policy toward match manipulation, emphasizing the need to uphold integrity in football competitions. Despite the suspension from continental competition, Turan Tovuz remains active domestically and aims to maintain its competitive edge ahead of potential appeals.
