Liverpool eyes Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as first signing under Andoni Iraola
Liverpool plans to target Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, also wanted by Manchester United, as Andoni Iraola’s first transfer to strengthen the midfield and wide areas.
New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola is set to pursue Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as his first signing at Anfield. The midfielder, who played a key role in Bournemouth’s rise under Iraola, has attracted interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United this summer transfer window.
Scott, an England Under-21 international, featured heavily as Bournemouth secured European football last season, starting in 34 Premier League matches. His dynamic style and aggressive pressing, similar to the early Liverpool teams managed by Jurgen Klopp, have made him a standout young talent recognized across the league.
Though Manchester United aims to reinforce its midfield with at least two signings this summer—and possibly three if Manuel Ugarte departs—Liverpool is also exploring a move for Scott, according to sources. The club’s sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously signed Scott for Bournemouth from Bristol City, is familiar with the player’s abilities, increasing the chances of a transfer.
Scott is currently involved with the England squad preparing for World Cup warm-up matches and could make his senior debut soon. He has expressed optimism about reuniting with Iraola, praising the manager’s high-intensity pressing style that aligns with Liverpool’s traditional approach.
Alongside the midfield interest, Liverpool is actively pursuing options to strengthen their attacking wide positions, with targets including RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola. These efforts reflect the club’s broader strategy of refreshing key areas of the squad under Iraola’s guidance.
