Liverpool’s New Coach Targets Trio of High-Value Transfers Including Rayan and Diomande

Liverpool’s recruitment strategy is gaining momentum under new head coach Andoni Iraola, who is eyeing several high-profile signings to reshape the squad after Mo Salah’s departure. Central to these plans is Bournemouth’s Brazil international, Rayan, whose impressive Premier League debut season has caught Iraola’s attention. However, any move for the winger is unlikely before January, as his current contract includes a substantial release clause, initially set at £130 million.

Aside from Rayan, Liverpool is engaged in negotiations with RB Leipzig over the transfer of 19-year-old Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande, a long-term target for the club. Diomande’s asking price reportedly nears £120 million, creating a significant hurdle, though the player is understood to be enthusiastic about joining Liverpool and potentially filling Salah’s void in attack.

While the Reds are prioritizing attacking reinforcements, they are also in the market for a right-back and a midfielder this summer. Recruitment insiders suggest that this transfer window will not mirror last year’s extraordinary spending spree focused on forwards. Iraola’s role as head coach—rather than full manager—reflects his collaborative approach, notably demonstrated during his time at Bournemouth, where he worked closely on recruitment decisions.

Sources familiar with Liverpool’s internal workings describe Iraola as a coach who emphasizes maximizing the talent already in the squad rather than being driven by frantic transfer activity. Nonetheless, his familiarity with Bournemouth players has brought some former connections into Liverpool’s sights. Besides Rayan, midfielder Adrien Truffert, whom Iraola helped bring to Bournemouth, remains a notable name, although Liverpool already have Milos Kerkez in a similar position.

There is also speculation about another Bournemouth prospect, Eli Junior Kroupi, who has attracted interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City. Despite this, the youngster’s valuation is expected to exceed £100 million, and Bournemouth are keen to retain him this summer. Unlike Rayan, Kroupi has no release clause, making any transfer negotiation particularly complex.

Ultimately, Liverpool’s transfer targets reflect a clear intent to strengthen the squad with youthful, high-potential players, balancing ambition with financial realities. Iraola’s management style and close links to Bournemouth could influence moves for former colleagues, but major deals will require negotiation over stiff price tags and timing constraints.
