Manchester United CEO Unveils Summer 2026 Transfer Strategy Centered on Five Key Signings
Manchester United plans to bolster its squad this summer with at least five signings, blending Premier League experience and promising international talents in a clear, long-term strategy.
Manchester United is preparing for a busy summer transfer window with a targeted approach focused on strengthening key positions and building on last year’s successful strategy. CEO Omar Berrada has confirmed the club aims to sign at least five new players, combining seasoned Premier League performers with rising stars from abroad.
Last summer, the Red Devils invested heavily in new talent, acquiring four players for a total of over £200 million. Among these, Matheus Cunha moved from Wolves, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. These additions helped Manchester United secure third place in the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League under manager Michael Carrick’s mid-season leadership.
On the other hand, the club also managed significant departures, loaning out Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and others, while transferring Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea and Antony to Real Betis. Key veterans like Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans left following the expiration of their contracts, clearing space for fresh talent.
In an interview on United’s official YouTube channel, Berrada emphasized the importance of a flexible but clearly structured plan. The club intends to remain agile in response to unexpected market developments or player exits but will prioritize decisions that support both immediate performance and long-term growth. He highlighted the role of Sporting Director Jason Wilcox and his team as pivotal in executing this plan.
The overall approach focuses on integrating experienced Premier League players who can deliver instant impact with promising international prospects who have shown strong performances outside England. The balance aims to replicate the successful formula used last summer that blended youth and experience effectively.
Among the targets, Atalanta midfielder Ederson is reportedly close to becoming Manchester United’s first signing of the window, signaling the beginning of a comprehensive squad overhaul. With the transfer window still ahead, the club remains poised to seize any opportunities that arise.
