Manchester United Prioritizes Strategic Transfers Over Agent Influence in Upcoming Window
Manchester United plans a disciplined summer transfer campaign focused on long-term squad building, starting with a key signing from Atalanta and targeting midfield reinforcements.
Manchester United are preparing for a focused transfer window, rejecting pressure from agents and market speculation to stick to a clear recruitment strategy developed last summer. The club's chief executive, Omar Berrada, emphasized their commitment to signing players who fit both immediate ambitions and longer-term goals.
The Red Devils have earmarked a £35 million move for Atalanta’s Ederson as their first major signing, reinforcing their midfield options. Additional midfield targets include Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, and Elliot Anderson—a player also linked with Manchester City. The club aims to balance experience with emerging talent, ensuring acquisitions can perform in the Premier League or are excelling in competitive leagues abroad.
Last summer’s approach saw United invest around £200 million on attackers Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, all of whom reached double figures in Premier League goals, while goalkeeper Senne Lammens emerged as a cost-effective success. Berrada views this blueprint as a model for sustained success, mixing youth and proven performers without succumbing to inflated market demands.
Cost control remains a priority following the dismissal of nearly 450 staff during recent restructuring efforts initiated by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Despite the painful decisions, the club now finds itself in a stronger financial and competitive position, having secured Champions League qualification after finishing third last season. Berrada credited the disciplined financial management with enabling last summer’s significant transfers.
On the coaching front, Michael Carrick was appointed permanent manager after overseeing the final months of the previous campaign. Berrada praised Carrick's composed yet ambitious leadership style and expressed confidence that the team’s trajectory under his guidance will continue positively over the next few years.
