Real Madrid President Plans Record €150 Million Signing Amid Upcoming Election
Florentino Pérez revealed plans for a record-breaking €150 million transfer this summer, aiming to secure a top player outside the Premier League if re-elected as Real Madrid president.
The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, announced a bold plan to pursue the most expensive signing in the club’s history, aiming to complete the deal after the upcoming presidential election. Pérez, who has held the position since 2000 with a brief hiatus, confirmed his intention to spend €150 million on a new "galáctico," though he did not reveal the player’s identity.
This announcement comes amid a rare challenge to Pérez’s long-standing presidency by Enrique Riquelme, a young businessman who has promised marquee signings like Erling Haaland and Rodri if elected. Pérez countered Riquelme’s campaign promises by unveiling three recent signings, including coach José Mourinho and defenders Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries, underscoring his commitment to strengthen the squad.
Pérez emphasized his approach will differ from his rival’s, stating he intends to negotiate directly with the player’s club before making any move, distancing himself from transfer tactics that ignore such protocols. The potential signing is reportedly not from the Premier League, narrowing the field of candidates.
Although Pérez withheld the player’s name, several names have surfaced in speculation. Two midfielders from Paris Saint-Germain, Vitinha and João Neves, are considered prime candidates. Both have extensive Champions League success with PSG and play in the midfield role where Real Madrid seeks reinforcement. Vitinha, 26, stands out as a key figure for PSG, while Neves, 21, is regarded as a promising young talent.
Another rumored target is Michael Olise from Bayern Munich, an English international forward aged 24. However, the club’s current focus on midfield reinforcements and Pérez’s own denial reduce the likelihood of Olise’s signing.
If completed, this transfer would surpass the record set by Jude Bellingham’s €127 million move in 2023 and Eden Hazard’s €120.8 million acquisition in 2019, marking a significant investment in the squad’s future strength.
